Almost...
1 Channel video and sound room Installation, dimensions variable, 2 minutes and 39 seconds looped
Prior to my most recent work, I have conveyed my ideas and expressed myself artistically from the outside. That is, although my work is experiential, it has been created from the perception of an outsider. In Almost I have placed the viewer inside my mind, using my eyes as the lens.
With Almost, my intent is to express the emotional, physical, and mental realities of a unique, human experience -- from beginning to end. Even though the seizure is the central theme of this video, my art and direction are not about epilepsy; rather, they are about finding new mediums and avenues for expressing myself and, more importantly, affecting the viewer. Although this experience is unique to me, dealing with emotional, physical, and mental stressors is not unique to anyone -- everyone experiences some form of intense experience that demands internal dialogue and commands immediate personal action. Regardless of the event or experience, I intend to engage the viewer as an active participant in the art -- forcing the viewer to think, feel, react, and question. My intent is to not draw conclusions or provide answers; rather, I expect the viewer to draw his or her own conclusions and react individually.
